The Retreat

Achill Island sits at the edge of Europe, where the Atlantic meets cliffs that have been here longer than memory. There is nothing soft about it- and that is precisely the point. Some places demand that you show up fully, that you meet them honestly. Achill is one of those places.

Over ten days, you will move your body through wild terrain, sit with discomfort until it becomes something useful, and leave with a clarity about yourself that a comfortable environment could never have given you. This is not a holiday. It is a deliberate encounter with your own capacity — physical, emotional, and psychological.

Whatever brought you here- a moment of crisis, a slow accumulation of too much, or a sense that something fundamental needs to change- the programme is built to meet you there.

The Pelagus Method

Adventure Activities

The landscape is the curriculum. Coasteering along the Wild Atlantic Way, surfing at Keel Beach, sea kayaking, mountain hiking, wild swimming, ropes courses, and navigation and expedition challenges are woven through the ten days. These are not diversions from the work — they are the work. Physical challenge in wild terrain is how breakthroughs happen.

Adventure Activities
Adventure Therapy

Every outdoor activity is facilitated by specialists who understand what it is doing to you psychologically. Fear, trust, perseverance, self-belief- these are not abstract concepts here. They happen in real time, in real conditions, with real support. Each challenge is debriefed through an evidence-based therapeutic lens, drawing on ACT, grounding practice, and reflection circle work.

Adventure Therapy
Recovery Mapping

Each participant builds a personalised Recovery Map across the ten days- a concrete, practical document that bridges the retreat and the life they are returning to. It covers triggers and patterns, coping strategies, support architecture, and a 90-day plan. It is built by the participant, for the participant, and it goes home with them.

GUEST EXPERIENCE

“It gave me a fresh start in every sense”

After completing a residential treatment programme, I was feeling fragile and unsure about how to move forward. Elysian with Pelagus Vitae gave me a fresh start in every sense. The sailing, the space, the one-to-one support—it all came together in such a powerful way. I felt seen, not just as someone in recovery, but as a whole person. I came home feeling calmer, more confident, and better equipped to rebuild my life.

Brian M., Cork

“The most powerful experience I’ve ever had“

I’ve done therapy, retreats, support groups—you name it. But nothing compares to the experience I had with Pelagus Vitae. Being out on the sea, away from everything, surrounded by nature and people who genuinely understood… it changed something deep within me. The mix of sailing, movement, and wellness practices felt completely natural and grounded. It was the most powerful and healing experience I’ve ever had.

Sarah L., Dublin

“A lifeline for both me and my team“

We brought Pelagus Vitae in to support a few key team members dealing with burnout and addiction challenges. What we got was so much more than just a retreat. It was a lifeline—for them and for us as a business. The Strive programme opened conversations we’d never had before and gave our people the tools to not just recover, but thrive. It’s a rare thing to find something that’s both deeply human and utterly professional.
